Chiulli: "UIM promotes sustainability in motorsport"

Pierre Casiraghi and Daniele Martignoni announce speed records with electric motors

MONTECARLO - A weekend in Montecarlo dedicated to sustainability. During "Solar & Energy Boat Challange" initiative, organized by the Yacht Club de Monaco and the International Motonautic Federation (UIM), it was held the sustainability workshop "International Motorsport & Environment", which saw the participation of industry experts and representatives of international motor federations, including FIA, UIM and FAI.

President of UIM Raffale Chiulli said: "Motorsport is a great laboratory to test new technological solutions and the future of motorboating will be increasingly linked to eco-friendly propulsions. Sport has the power to catalyze attention to sustainable mobility, aggregating investments and stimulating innovation and virtuous behavior in this green revolution".

During the workshop, pilot Daniele Martignoni of the world powerboating XCAT UIM (from Royal Yacht Club Canottieri Savoia) announced that, on July 14, 2019, he will try to achieve a speed record in the Cannes-Monaco route making use of four electric motors on a G-Cat carbon catamaran.

The attempt to record will mark the debut in powerboating for Pierre Casiraghi (for the Yacht Club de Monaco, presided over by Prince Albert II of Monaco), the son of late Stefano Casiraghi, a long-time icon of world motorboat racing, and the project will be developed in collaboration with the Polytechnic University of Milan, UIM and Niccolò Vassena among partners.

Visibly touched, Martignoni made the announcement in Monte Carlo, in the presence of Marco Casiraghi and Raffaele Chiulli: "I am happy for this renewed success of the world motorboating, thanks to the commitment of UIM President Raffaele Chiulli. Also in Stresa, in the XCAT World Championships stage, he showed great attention to this sport, being rewarded by a large and competent public, as well as from a renewed interest of important business groups. To bring back Pierre Casiraghi in the competition has an important value that only sport can give ".

The Yacht Club de Monaco has already announced the 6th edition of the Solar & Energy Boat Challange, to be held from 4 to 6 July 2019.
